Eyepieces: TMB Paragon

TMB Paragon 40mm eyepiece in a boxThe TMB Paragon is the ultimate wide field eyepiece. The radical new design eliminates almost all aberations, giving the observer a pristine view of the heavens. The coatings are the best available, with ultra-high transmission, giving the observer clear, bright views of the heavens.

The TMB Paragon eyepieces offer a 69 degree field of view with a tack sharp view and lots of eye relief. Just what is needed for extended gazing at Deep Space Objects. And, just what you would expect from a Thomas Back designed eyepiece.

Each TMB Paragon eyepiece has a serial number engraved on the barrel. The black anodized all-aluminum body is light and good looking. The lettering is highly visible in red light.

Check out the construction and features:

  • Designed by Thomas Back of TMB Optical
  • Radical new 6 element, 4 group design
  • Every Air to Glass surface has Multi Broadband coatings
  • All lens edges are blackened
  • Coatings have 99.98 to 99.99% transmission (less than 0.02% loss per surface)
  • Fully internally baffled
  • Internal spacers have flat anodizing and micro-baffles to reduce reflections.
  • Flexible two position eyecup
  • Apparent Field of View (AFOV) of 69o
  • True AFOV of 68o (meaning that there is virtually no magnification increase across the FOV)
  • Lightweight design
  • Lettering with a special, red-light reflection (see picture below, taken in red light)
  • Tapered safety undercut
  • Oversized locking lens cap with TMB
To lower the eyecup, grasp the eyepiece in both hands with the thumbs together and pressing down one side of the eyecup, slide the thumbs in opposite directions around the eyecup while pressing the edge of the eyecup against the body of the EP. Before the thumbs meet, the eyecup will snap into the down position. There is a distinct POP sound when the eyecup snaps down. See the pictures below for an example of how to lower it.
